In 1929 the Avita Springs were discovered by Dr. Bernard Godfroy and Bernard Maurer on their 200 acre private estate surrounded by thousands of acres of the Northern Michigan AuSable State Forest.

Then, in 1948 Doc Godfroy and Bernie Maurer installed two wells near the springs for crop irrigation purposes, and Avita Artesian water unexpectedly began flowing to the surface under its own pressure. Since that time, 50-60 million gallons per year flow continuously from the twin artesian springs. Avita Artesian Water is bottled 1800 feet from its source. The purity is such that only ozonation is required prior to bottling.

Avita Artesian Water flows from an inclined aquifer consisting of very porous glacial sand and gravel alluvium, which is several hundred feet thick. The aquifer is sandwiched between impermeable clay layers. The water enters the edge of the aquifer at a high elevation and percolates downward through the sand and gravel. The artesian wells have been flowing continuously for over 60 years at a constant cold temperature of 44 oF. The pH of this water is a boastful 7.9, and has a low mineral content. THERE IS NO ARSENIC, TRITIUM, BROMATE, OR PERCHLORATE!!!

In 1987 Terry A. Maurer, son of Bernard Maurer, and Terry's wife, MaryAnn, and her brother, Dale Horning, and his wife, Gaelene, began bottling this premium artesian water. The first sales of this premium water were made in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In 1996 Avita Artesian Water was introduced commercially to the US and Canada. In 1999 the product was sold in 1/2 liter and 1 liter PET bottles and 1 liter glass in Michigan, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, Florida and North Carolina. Avita is now sold in all 50 States, including New York City, by Eden Foods under their label Eden Springs. Avita Water is also certified by NSF to meet all FDA requirements, and is certified kosher by the Circle K Rabbidical Association.

Avita Artesian Water earned a bronze metal in the Non-Carbonated Bottled Water category at the Berkley Springs International Water Tasting festival 2003.

Avita Artesian Water, LLC. is a proud sponsor for National Kidney Foundation of Michigan; The Detroit and Plymouth YMCA; Special Olympics of Michigan; AuSable Canoe Marathon Races and Michigan Organ and Tissue Donation Association.
